Hammersmith Removals
Questions

What people ask, answered plainly

The things people actually ask, answered plainly.

01

Is parking difficult in Hammersmith?

Controlled almost everywhere in W6, so a bay suspension or a dispensation is usually part of the job rather than an extra. We arrange it once the date is fixed, because the council needs notice and the notice period is the part people leave too late.

02

What is the housing like?

Victorian and Edwardian terraces, red-brick mansion flats, conversion flats carved out of those terraces, riverside apartment blocks along the Mall, and newer development around the Broadway. Five quite different kinds of moving day.

03

Does the Apollo affect a move?

On gig nights, yes — the roads around the Broadway and the bridge approach get busy and stay busy. We check what is on before fixing a loading window rather than discovering it at five in the afternoon.

04

Can you get to a riverside address?

Usually, with planning. Some blocks along the Mall and near Furnivall Gardens have limited vehicle access, gated forecourts or a walk from the nearest standing point, and all three change the crew size rather than the price list.

05

Do you handle conversion flats?

Constantly. A terrace cut into flats keeps the original stair, which was built for a household rather than for two sofas and a wardrobe. We measure the turn before we price.

06

How do you work out a price?

Measured volume, access at both ends, how much packing you want, and distance. Nothing else.

07

Is there another Hammersmith firm on this network?

Yes — hammersmith-removals.uk, the hyphenated domain, works the same district with its own crews and its own approach. We are not pretending otherwise. If you have spoken to them already, speak to them; two quotes from the same family of firms helps nobody.

08

Does a survey cost anything?

No, and it carries no obligation. A video call covers most W6 addresses; mansion flats, riverside blocks and anything with a difficult stair are worth an in-person look.

09

What about the permit?

We apply for the bay suspension or dispensation on your behalf where one is needed. Hammersmith & Fulham want notice, and that notice period is the single commonest reason a moving day starts badly.

10

Will my things be insured?

Goods in transit and storage cover are in place, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable at survey and we confirm in writing what applies.

11

Do you pack?

Full, part, or fragile-only. Most households do their own books and clothes and leave us the kitchen, the glass and the pictures. Materials go when we go.

12

Do you do man and van work?

Yes — a room, a studio, a storage unit cleared, a marketplace collection. Same crews, smaller vehicle.

13

Can you store things between places?

Containerised storage: wrapped, listed on an inventory and racked indoors, collected as part of the move. Chains slip more often than they do not.

14

Do you move pianos?

Uprights routinely. Grands are assessed first, and out of a first-floor conversion flat with a tight stair we would rather bring in a piano specialist than improvise.

15

What if completion slips on the day?

The load stays on the vehicle or goes into store overnight. We tell you plainly what that means rather than sending a surprise invoice afterwards.

16

Do you cover Fulham or Chiswick?

The edges, yes. Fulham has its own coverage on our network and we do not poach it; Chiswick over the bridge we will quote. For a genuinely London-wide move our pan-London sister sites are the better fit.

17

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as the date is even provisional — partly for the diary and partly because the permit wants notice.

18

Do you do office moves?

Small commercial — the studios and offices behind the Broadway, practices on King Street. Out of hours usually suits everyone better.

19

Who handles the customs paperwork on a European move?

We do, built from the survey inventory. A household move to the EU now needs a proper packing list and the destination country's transfer-of-residence process, and each of our four destinations differs.

20

Can you collect from two addresses?

Yes — two households merging, or a flat plus a storage unit emptied on the way. Mention both so the route is costed from the start.

Still not answered?

Put it in the notes on the quote form. Services covers what we do, coverage covers where, and European removals covers moves that leave the country.

Tell us about the move

Both addresses, the floor at each end, and roughly what is coming. We will survey, check the access and come back with a written quote.
